This book was recommended to me by a fifth grade teacher who uses it in her classroom in Lithia, FL. As an adult reader, I was surprisingly pulled in by this story of 1954 rural Virginia and the way life was at that time. The story is built around the mystery of the disappearance one night of a family member (Belle Prater) including the build up to that event and the results afterwards. This book offers many thought provoking questions for young and old alike. In fact, I liked it Belle Prater's Boy enough to read the follow on book about what happens to this family. This is an easy read good book for adults. It is a very good book for young adults.

This book was a wonderful read. I am an elementary school counselor & decided to read this book because my sixth-graders are reading it in class. Their teacher knew that some of the students might have questions dealing with death and suicide. It is the first book I have read by Ruth White but it will not be the last! It is very well written and she deals with the subjects of death and suicide in a very sensitive way. I like the theme throughout the book of not judging people by what you see on the outside but by getting to know what's on the inside.

This is a touching story with a surprisingly mature plot for a book written for ages 10-11. The two main characters, cousins, are trying to deal with loss - one the death her father and the other the disappearance of his mother. Both feel like social outcasts and like they have been abandoned by the adult most important to them. I so appreciate an author who respects adolescents and children enough to write such a human story that thousands of children will be able to relate to and thousands more may learn some empathy from reading such a moving story.

I really enjoyed this book, even though I am far from the age of the young people in this book. I live very near the book's setting, and that added quite a bit of enjoyment for me.The plot was believable, and had a fairly high ring of possible truth to it.Personally, I liked the implied message in the whole book, and a lot of grownups could do well to heed the message.

This tale is so rich with cultural language. It pulls the reader in with a plot that show realistic life issues kids can identify with. I thoroughly recommend it especially to kids who are forced into life's situations they did not choose.

I purchased this book because it's setting is actually the little town of Grundy Virginia. As well as written by one of our own. What a treasure I've discovered!!! I absolutely love this little book and am sure I'll read it many times over the years. You won't want to pass up this little gem.

Out of date somewhat, but very indepth. Focus on the portions involving the compiler, they are still relevant. The library is pretty bad. The compiler is pretty good. Custom compiler passes is an extra step I did not expect and makes it worth the money.

Great book and THE only book on Closure. Worth it. Would be nice if it were updated a little.

This is definitive. This book covers it all and covers it very well. I am excited to get throught the book and start using Closure on mopre projects. This book is not for the JavaScript newcomer. It is best if you already have experience with other JavaScript libraries and are familiar with Unit Tests and feel comfortable with JavaScript since it is best to program specifically for the compiler you need to be aware of the differences.Over all it is a great book and a must for anyone who wants to take up Closure.

Helpful and detailed introduction to closure and java script. Good working examples and set up instructions. Excellent intro. Points out many important details. Worth re-reading.

I was surprised how good this book is! It is a worthwhile read even if you care little about the closure library just for the gems on JS design.

I really admire Michael Bolin, and his intelligence and experience. But this book doesn't have much you can copy into an editor and use. And it seems there's a lot in the book explaining what happens behind the scenes. I don't care about that, except that it's confusing to me to know whether he's explaining something I need to code, or whether Google already coded it like that and he's just explaining what it does. The book is the only one I've seen on this subject, so there are really no other choices. I just wish Google would get off their duff and write better external documentation. It should not be as hard as it is. It really shouldn't. In other words, this book, and using Google Closure is not for mediocre minds like mine.

Not worth the money for additional at home help.

This is an invaluable resource for teaching children with autism what a conversation is or any child that is struggling to make friends. It gives detailed information for facilitating the groups and also parent handouts and evaluation sheet. I feel that parents and teachers who read this book will be better able to assist children with social skills, even if they do not lead a formal group setting. I did not get this for free or at any discounted price. I wanted to make that clear. I have worked with autistic children in a group setting and this would have been an invaluable book at the time I worked there. In group settings, so much time is devoted to correcting behavior problems, that the children have learned largely do to rejection from peers because of little or no social skills, that it is hard to get to proper ways to socialize. I was seeking this book, at this time, actually as a parent. My daughter has not been diagnosed with autism, but I feel that she would easily gather a autistic spectrum diagnosis if evaluated. I know the criteria of it well. I was trying to do my own early intervention to see if I could help prevent her being in special classes in school. (She is almost five.) I have seen amazing progress through using ideas in the book. Most of the time, by the time they enter an alternative school (where I gained experience), it is so difficult to work through the behavior problems in order to actually facilitate an orderly group. Still, this book could be adapted by a skilled therapist even with autistic children with behavior problems. I feel that if a curriculum like this one was used in schools, because teachers are not trained to work with autism, it would give teachers ideas on how to lead classes that could help prevent many behavior problems that result from not being able to communicate well with others. As a parent, I do not have a group to work with, I did the group by using her father and her as the two having the conversation. I think it has helped the entire family dynamic and increased overall communication. I think this, as I said, is a good tool for intervention, in schools and at home. It also gives step by step information on facilitating the groups if your are a therapist new to working with autistic students, or even maybe not so new. Even if teachers and parents were not skilled at leading groups, it gives invaluable information on what makes up a conversation, which most people never think about. Really, I think most any child with difficulties with conversation and troubles with social skills would benefit from having a parent read this book. The parents than can model appropriate conversations and encourage appropriate conversation topics, questions and staying on topic, just in day to day talk by talking with their children about what conversation is made of. I think schools should have a social skills class for all students using a book like this one whether or not they have autism. Conversation does not come naturally to everyone, nor does learning how to relate to others. Even if your child is simply having trouble making friends, I feel you would benefit from this book. Every school that works with children with autism and a therapeutic practices that work with children with autism should have this in their library. I wish it had been available for me, when I was working in a professional setting. I am looking forward to looking at the 'Social Detectives' book and the 'Say It or Not' book as well.

Wow! This is truly an excellent resource! The format is fantastic; very easy to read, great layout with shading and highlighted parts that make it easy to follow and read. This is a very comprehensive guide and very practical. Written in layman's terms so that anyone, from the most experienced professional to the "newbie" can easily follow along and implement this program. I am truly impressed with this book and I highly recommend it. I would like to see it used in schools and rehab centres everywhere.

I was pleased to receive a promotional PDF of How to Talk with Friends. I like the 2-part format of the program which contains the background information you need to run a successful social skills program as well as the 12 weekly lessons. I like the flexibility of the program where you can adjust program length and adapt it to different age groups. I also like the repetition and step-by-step nature of the program. This program is definitely worth your time and investment!

This book offers specific skill building activities to teach children conversational skills with a group setting. The book is organized well and the steps are broken down nicely. Dr. Toole offers many activity ideas for multiple practice opportunities within each session. I appreciate indexes which provide topics, statements, and questions for use, so the clinician doesn't have to try to make them up as they go. The parent handouts explain the new skill, provide homework for home practice, and request just enough information about the homework practice to encourage accountability and shed light on the student's success. While there is a chapter on eye contact and body language, I think students who already have those skills would benefit most from this book. I received this book as a promotion, but feel it is a resource worth investing in!

I received a free PDFs copy of this book. It is clearly laid out and well scripted while the repetitive structure simplifies the program for both the coach and student. Both the scripted topics and predictive structure will give confidence to less experienced coaches. I am looking forward to trying out this program.

Dr. Hillyer has been awarded many million dollars in research funding from the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other agencies. He was an associate editor of Transfusion and serves on several other editorial boards. Dr. Hillyer was formally recognized for his work in Africa as part of the AABB/Emory cooperative agreement from the President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and is a recipient of two Tiffany Awards from the American Red Cross where he also served as a medical director and a member of their national Medical Advisory Board. He also received the 2014 Emily Cooley Award from AABB for his “significant commitment and contributions to the field of transfusion medicine through extensive teaching, mentoring and professional leadership, and the countless clinical, scientific and innovative resource materials he has created to educate others”. He is a co-founder of Transfusion & Transplantation Technologies, Inc (3Ti) and holds over 20 patents or patents pending. Dr. Hillyer is board certified in transfusion medicine, hematology, medical oncology and internal medicine. He received his BS from Trinity College, and his MD from the University of Rochester School of Medicine, with postgraduate training and fellowships in hematology-oncology, transfusion medicine and bone marrow transplantation at Tufts-New England Medical Center.Morayma Reyes Gil, MD, PhD, is an associate professor in the Department of Pathology at Montefiore Medical Center (MMC) and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. As the director of hematology and special coagulation laboratories, Dr. Reyes Gil oversees all hematology and coagulation laboratories at all MMC hospitals, collaborates in clinical research and clinical trial studies and continues translational research in vascular biology. She started her career in academic pathology at the University of Washington as an assistant professor in the Department of Pathology and laboratory Medicine. Dr. Reyes Gil has been a recipient of several awards and research grants from private research foundations and from the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Reyes Gil is board certified in clinical pathology and has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles in the field of vascular biology. Dr. Gil is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico. She received her MD and PhD from the University of Minnesota. She then completed a residency in clinical pathology and specialized in coagulation and benign hematology at the University of Washington.

This book is an outstanding review of transfusion medicine and coagulation. No other textbook explains these two topics so clearly and in such an organized fashion. It is extremely thorough and complete. Each chapter is easy to read and contains only information that is important, nothing trivial. I believe that that all hematology/oncology fellows and attending physicians can benefit from this book.

Great concise review book. Have not finished reading it yet but I like it. I just wish they would have their citing references in the text.

Don't let anyone tell you that the teeth are the only bone in the body that cannot heal. That is FALSE. I healed a huge cavity with diet only and it only took a few months. I used broth, no sugar, easy on processed grains, grass-fed meats, good greens, raw grass-fed butter, etc. Kids can heal even faster (I've seen them heal in a few weeks!) but you must be strict about no sugar and not just for a few weeks. Thank you, Dr. Lin for writing this book! This is not just another diet book ... it is a way to change your life and the health of your children and grandchildren.

When I was a practicing orthodontist (retired last summer) I was acutely aware of what is necessary for the health of the mouth and how that relates to the overall health of our body. Once we realize that food becomes the cells of our bodies, the foods we put into our mouths directly influence our state of health. Bad food will eventually catch up with you. Our body perpetually tries to heal us, but it can only do so if it has the correct fuel. Dr. Steven Lin's great new book is the solution we have all been looking for. That is, how to protect our mouths and our bodies at the same time. In addition, if adopted early enough in life, these protocols could possibly influence facial growth and development of children, giving them stronger teeth and possibly greater arch dimensions for the developing dentition.Each year at Christmas I always gave gifts to referring dentists as a way of thanking them for their referrals. I would try to give them something that would have meaning for them, instead of a perishable item they would eat and then not remember. Dr. Lin's book would be the perfect gift for all orthodontists and other specialists to give to their referring dentists for Christmas, and in turn, for dentists to recommend to their patients. I’m just blown away by The Dental Diet. I was expecting another run of the mill food book, but this book is so, so SO much more. The story of how our food has caused crooked teeth (I was SHOCKED) and Dr Lin basically retold my life and my children’s lives. My only downside is I have not found this earlier, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for writing this - I think dental care and the way we look after our own and kids teeth will change forever because of this book.

Very interesting to read from the perspective of dental health. I was aware of most of this information, however. I do read quite a bit on nutrition though. If you’re familiar with Weston Price or the Paleo diet you may also know most of this information. It’s still a well done book. Worth a read. Note: not for vegans, it emphasizes animal fats and protein (broth, fatty cuts, eggs, etc). Check out Weston price website if you want to get an idea of his recommended diet.

This a great and fun read. Dr Lin, DDS, presents a comprehensive approach to healthcare, with an emphasis on our dental care . He presents a blueprint for good teeth care explaining why everything is related to our health and teeth. His explanations are clear and concise, listing which vitamins to take, a nutrition plan to follow with good recipes, and some great anecdotal stories about his journey into health. I especially liked his story about his Chinese grandmother who inspired him on a path of good health at an early age. Another good story is about the time he took off from being a Dentist to back pack in Europe where he came upon a book by Dr Price, a pioneer in Vitamin K, which Dr Lin believes is one of the greatest discoveries in preventative modern dentistry. I hope that you enjoy this book as much as I have.

So far I have made my way through Chapter 3 and I am already in love with this book. I feel parts of it are words written from my own thoughts in my head as well as conversations I've had with my patients. Many relatable parts in this book, for both a clinician and a patient. Clinicians (dental and not) will love the research findings and mouth/body/nutrition connection, and patients will love the easy reading and insights gained to having a better understanding of their own mouths and overall health. This is truly a must for EVERYONE who desires to not only have a healthy mouth but a healthy body. Great work Dr Lin! Looking forward to finishing the book!

Very informative and important book for anyone wanting a career in radio, whether talk or music platform! I highly recommend this book! It's a great learning tool for not only talent but, managers, owners and program directors as well. I like that the author provides the reader with examples throughout the sections to give the reader an opportunity to really understand what he/she is reading. This book should stay a staple not only for new talent but, also seasoned radio professionals as an on-going guide, a refresher if you will. I gave it a 5-star rating because I felt it touched on important key points that radio professionals need to know.

After 28 years of being a radio personality, in and out of a Top 5 market, I needed Valerie's book because I was so frustrated at the results of my so-called career. I blamed the industry, consolidation, and incompetent ownership and management. I new feel empowered with new insights, ready to provide my field with more entertainment and revenue-generating performance, thanks to this guide (which I will refer to regularly). I hope my competition doesn't read it!

It's pretty slim pickins' when it comes to literature concerning the production and marketing of quality radio programming. I'm glad she was one of the few who decided to put pen to paper. Great book.
