COURTING HER HIGHNESS is a dense, rich character study of three women whose lives were dramatically intertwined. It is a story of friendship, love, loyalty, betrayal, power, politics, and the struggle to find one's place in this world and in history. I found it a joy to read, absorbing, satisfying, and entertaining. Even thought-provoking and fun.I've read a ton of novels about the Stuarts, but Mary and Anne both have always been overshadowed: both by their male ancestors, and Mary by William, Anne by Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough. Of course, Sarah would steamroll over anyone!I found this to be one of Jean Plaidy's most satisfying novels. She balances her time with each leading lady: Anne, Sarah, and the clever, retiring, long-suffering Abigail Masham, so that the novel works as a showcase of all three personalities. Each woman is dynamic and fascinating in their own way. I haven't seen Anne portrayed so positively anywhere else. And Abigail has, until I read this novel, always been a simple footnote in the greater drama of Anne and Sarah.Plaidy writes what seems to be honest portrayal of each woman's faults and strengths, ambitions, fears, and frustrations. The men in their lives, though loved, were as often as not pawns in their ploy for power (Marlborough) taken for granted (Samuel Masham) or adored but without influence (Prince George). These women wielded their own formidable power and influence at a time when a woman's power usually came from sex. Sarah and Abigail were Queen Anne's "Favourites" like Charles Ii's Barbara Palmer, Nelly Gwynne, Louse de Keroualle et al, or her father's (less influential) Katherine Sedley. Indeed there was an element of sex in their complex relationships, but it wasn't their ticket to the privy chamber as it was with their predecessors. They are unique in the history of British monarchs. And clearly, a monarch's favorite companions, duchess or chambermaid, actress or courtier, were extremely powerful, as Plaidy demonstrates. They could make or break anyone, even men far above their rank. But through her character study of Anne, Plaidy carefully demonstrates that ultimately, the queen was boss, the woman history has painted as a fat and complacent cow. Queen Anne had guts, not just a gut, and I loved reading about her.Sarah Churchill is also simply awe-inspiring. She's one of history's most famous capital-b-Bitches, to be perfectly frank, and she seems to deserve that reputation. She is endlessly fun to read about, the more outrageous, the better. A baddie you love to hate, not unlike Barbara Palmer. Though My Lady Castlemaine actually sounds like the friendlier of the two. Whew. I digress.Abigail Masham was incredibly clever and resilient, despite swimming with sharks. Perhaps not so much clever as instead more.. . I'm blanking. Careful, wise, patient but ambitious nonetheless. . . Plaidy helped me finally understand how she became a Favourite and remained one. I trust that her influence in Robert Harley's career was not fiction on Plaidy's part, nor her quiet, plausible Jacobite sympathies and influence on Anne in that arena. The full extent, of course, is conjecture, but clearly researched.I also found the little Duke of Gloucester, Anne's only child to survive past infancy, only to die at eleven, to be an incredibly charming, adorable, endearing fellow. I loved reading about him. It's no wonder his mama and papa were so smitten and proud!I've read one other novel about Anne and Sarah, with very little Abigail Duchess: A Novel of Sarah Churchill. Narrated by Sarah herself, it's a great companion for Plaidy's older novel (previously published as The Queen's Favourites, why the title change?) of course I like Sarah at her worst, as she is here in Courting Her Highness. There's also the non-fiction biography Sarah Churchill: Duchess of Marlborough: The Queen's Favourite. You can probably tell Sarah's a favourite of mine, too. This book is a deliciously wicked portrayal of Sarah Churchill that's quite fun. At the same time it manages to convey the struggles of poor dear Anne. One wonders why she was so, so clingy and desperate for friendship, but I also greatly empathize with her: we both value friendships as sacred, deep bonds of love and loyalty. It can make one's heart sadly vulnerable.Ultimately though, I'd say this is Abigail's book. As much as an ensemble piece as it is, highlighting all three women, Abigail's character performs much like she did in real life, always quietly in the background, never far from the action. She has an Everywoman quality, not having grown up at court, that draws the reader to see most comfortably through her eyes, of the three.Fans of historical fiction will easily gobble this up. Jean Plaidy, who wrote gothic romance under the name Victoria Holt and historical romance as Phillipa Carr, is strikingly prolific in her work on the British monarchy (prolific in general!) I recommend her series on Queen Victoria. Her books are currently enjoying rediscovery as they are rereleased. What a joy!

Historical novels are readable forms of quasi-history, palatable history courses for readers who like a spiced up view of the past. JP specializes in English history focusing on the Crown and members of the Court, all of whom either wielded power or wished to, never certain if they could achieve it or how long they could hold on to it. Raw power was the menu of the day and for readers of later generations has always provided a rich source for story-telling. Life, death, money, sex, intrigue......all of that and all the time. Her books fill very satisfactorily readers' appetites for this kind of history lesson. I found some unnecessary repetition and some dialogue a little manufactured. Still it was fun to read if not quite up to the quality of at least two other authors of a similar venue, both of whom have received awards for their wok.

I have actually read this book twice. I wish I had known the historical sequence of Jean Plaidy's books. Since I read this one first in the Stuart series, I reread it after I finished some of the other books. The manner in which little unobtrusive Abigail Hill weans the emotional dependence of Anne from the flamboyant Sarah Churchill who had been her closest friend since childhood and becomes a factor in the politics of England is impressive. I actually looked up the history of the era, and these people are all historical figures and did what Jean Plaidy says they did. Plaidy's colorful writing puts flesh on the old historical bones.

Queen Anne has been upstaged by the more flamboyant Stuarts like Charles I (her grandfather) and Charles II (her uncle) and all the Tudors. But she was well -meaning and honest and although a woman easily influenced, albeit stubborn, her rule reflected a prosperous England,Anne gets upstaged in this historical novel, too, by one Abigail Hill and by Sarah Churchill. Abigail is an impovershed relation, a cousin, of Lady Marlborough (Sarah Churchill)and Sarah secures a place for Abigail in Princess Anne's household because she is ashamed of having a poor relative. As Sarah blatantly manipulates the Princess, Abigail as Mistress of the Wardrobe quietly goes about winning Anne's affection and trust. (Abigail and Sarah rather remind me of Jane Seymour versus Anne Boleyn). The interesting thing is Abigail is just as manipulting of Queen Anne as Sarah, but much more tactful(Jane Seymour).Abigail very likely loved Anne, Sarah emphatically did not.Anne's loss of her only surviving child, the eleven year old Duke of Gloucester,is very touching in the book. Because she is emotionally vulnerable, the stage is set for a sympathetic listener and Abigail provides the ballast Anne needs. One wonders how Anne withstood the horror of seventeen aborted pregnancies. When William of Orange, the King and husband of Anne's long-dead sister Mary dies, Anne inherits the throne. Her husband, George of Denmark remains a prince and not a king as he is the queen consort. George is insignificant and wafts in and out of the novel, mostly eating and sleeping. Anne adores him.Anne favors moderate Tory politicians who share her High Church Anglican views. She also reinstates the touch of the king's evil, a practise in which the ruler touches the necks of people suffering from scrofula, a type of tuberculosis resulting in lesions and swellings of the lymph nodes. "The king's Evil" is the name of the disease.Anne's reign is one of artistic, literary and economic prosperity. Although Daniel Defoe is pilloried for his ruthless attacks on the hypocrisy of the High Church Tories, he is so popular with the masses that they refrain from throwing garbage at him while he is confined to the pillory. They threw flowers instead. Defoe is a very prolific writer, his most famous work being, of course, "Robinson Crusoe."He has his fingers in many pies reflecting liveliness of thought during Anne's reign. Jonathan Swift is a prodigious writer at this time as well.Anne will dismiss her Whig ministers and her relationship with the Whig supporter Sarah Churchill sours. Eventually she will be denied all access to the Queen. Meanwhile Abigail, who had long since married the Prince's attendant Samuel Masham, grows in power and influence over the Queen, meticulously remains in her proper place as a subject even when her husband is awarded a peerage.Sarah outlives Queen Anne, the Duke of Marlborough her husband and Abigail Masham. Finally dying at age eighty, this virago is not mourned by a soul."Courting her Highness" is a fine read although the historical novel gets a bit too ponderous at times.

Not a lot has been written about Queen Anne of England. This is an interesting tale of the rise and fall of Sarah Churchill and her relationship with the Queen. Fans of English history will enjoy this book.

Good book for children and adults who are looking to learn TOGETHER about the immigrant experience for Irish coming to NYC in the early part of the 20th Century. Good 2nd book to accompany others with similar material, namely "The Locket:Surviving the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire" by Suzanne Lieurance. Once you read about what went on, you won't buy 21st Century items made in foreign sweatshops again.

I LOVE this book!! I read it before when I was in junior high school and I was recently thinking of it and thought I'd like to read it again. It was just as great as the first time I read it! It really deals with the struggles of coming to America and going through Ellis Island and making a life in early 20th century America. And it also has a gripping account of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire (through a fictional character). I highly recommend this book!! :)

simply love it!

My daughter had to read this for her 6th grade social studies class and she really enjoyed it. I think it gave her a much clearer perspective on the history of the US.

Interesting story about sisters who try to come together, yet each have other viewpoints.

Summer reading for my daughter. She enjoyed it. I'm going to read it now!

Excellent story. Well written. I felt I knew the charaters and how they responded to the situation they were in. Interesting to find out about the beginning of Unions, especially to help opressed women. My grandmother had told me much about the TriangleFfire and all in this book confirmed what happened. Only problem was not reading ahead to get to fire, but story held such interest that worked out OK

My 13 year old son who isn't a big reader enjoyed this book very much. I'll read it next.

Wow, another amazing book by SC Daiko! This was my first menage story by her, and I loved it! It gave me feels in all the right places, with just enough drama and angst to make me really feel for everyone, and plenty of heat for everyone. This story focuses on Sam and her twins, Aiden and Liam. Sam has come from a family with domestic abuse that make her skittish around men, but she does everything in her power to not be weak and stands up for herself. She has drive and passion for horses, and it brings her to Aiden and Liam. The twins are two sides of the same coin, one brash while the other more responsible, and both are on the professional bracket for horse competitions. When the boys begin training Sam how to ride her horse, their dynamic slowly changes, and the boys are very gentle and understanding with Sam as things go to a deeper level. It was beautiful watching them comforting and taking care of her, bringing out her full potential, and all the while, Sam becomes devoted to them and helps them. I thought their relationship developed well, not rushed or anything like that.Overall I really liked this book! I got to know Sam well, and thought her relatable. The twins were fantastic, and everything you want in book boyfriends. The story was written well with very few grammar errors, and it was paced really well! Everything progressed as it should, not to quickly, and no plodding either. It made me feel for all the characters at different points, which was awesome. The chemistry between the three of them was amazing, especially as time passes, and then the family aspect was another element that added nicely to the book. This is taboo story not only because it's a stepbrothers romance, but also because it's MFM menage. The family's reaction was realistic and wasn't resolved just like that, which was nice. If you love MFM stories, especially with some taboo moments, you'll love this book. I highly recommend it!I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary review of the book.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.Twins brothers, Aiden and Liam, are put off when they are forced to help their bratty younger stepsister, Samantha, to train her horse. But her hard work slowly changes their opinion of her and as a reward, they decide to take her along for one of their competitions. Tensions build between the three until working together is about more than just training horses.I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Ménage, taboo books are hot and this was no exception. I would recommend this book to everyone looking for a passionate read. Miss Daiko had a five star work on her hands with "Their Virgin Brat".

I was really excited to start this one from S.C. Daiko - Twin Brothers Ménage Hot!!!Their Virgin Brat blew me away right from the very start and the epilogue is everything a reader would want from this feel good story.Aiden & Liam Roberts - The twins are Identical in everyway, visually, personality wise one seems harsher than the other but both are gentlemen and work hard and play even harder.Samantha aka Sam - A shy and standoffish Brat, but with a jaded past that makes her act out. When the three of them are thrown together through their parents marriage and their shared love of horses will they cross the forbidden lines or just have a taste ?This story will give you all the feels, the sexual scenes are very hot, parts will make you sad, laugh and scream through frustration.Highly recommended for lovers of romance, ménage and hot twin action!

Thank goodness Kindle has Wikipedia in it...I had to look up all the horse related words. LolThat being said, I really enjoyed this book. Samantha, Aiden & Liam had such a special relationship and I loved going on their journey with them. The Twins were so patient and loving towards Sam and did such an amazing job of helping her get over her fears. How could she not fall in love? One thing I really liked was that the drama was minimal. This was just a sweet love story...with a twist!

This book actually surprised me. With a title and cover like this, I thought it was going to have very little besides sex, but there was much more to the story. And further surprising me, the story that was there was accurate, as far as I know. I know that sounds unfair to "judge a book by it's cover," but we all do. And sometimes I think the good sex writing authors, because the sex scenes in this book are Smokin, don't always seem to be good at writing the rest of it. But, I found this book to be very well written with hot sex and a very good solid storyline!

I love this book! Their Virgin Brat is a fast paced, quick read but intensely hot! Once again SC Daiko has added her own unique elements, to make this a fresh and interesting story. The connection between the characters is undeniable but also realistic and true to life. With scorching hot sex scenes, (and there's a lot of them!), and a very clever back story makes this must read. I highly recommend this book.*Please note that this a M/F/M taboo romance*

Samantha is a young woman with dreams of becoming a great rider. Liam and Aiden are amazing riders. One other thing besides love of horses they have in common is that their parents got married making them step-siblings. Samantha moves into the family farm house with her hot new brothers. Can they stay away from temptation or will they cross that naughty line.I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance readers copy of this book

Really enjoyed the story line and the way the characters evolved. Had some challenges to overcome but succeeded together. Loved that the main female character Sam was not expected to put her dreams at bay to have and raise a family till she accomplished her dreams and started her new one with her husband's

To use a quote I learned as a young boy while watching The Sand Lot, “Hero’s live forever, but legends never die”. I first read this book after pulling it off the shelf in my family’s library. It was a book bought by or gifted to my father, I never did find out which. The young boy I was who wanted to be a warrior and a Marine some day saw the figure crouched low in the undergrowth and was instantly intrigued. I read that book from cover to cover in a whirl of colors and sounds as my imagination created and played the story in my head in the way it does that cause the pages to disappear. Only good books, well written by versed story tellers do that and aren’t a chore. This book is one of them.I eventually did serve as a Navy Hospital Corpsman, and was stationed with a Marine Infantry platoon in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. I served with 2nd Battalion 9nth Marines, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division. I only say this because I know firsthand the love and brotherhood that comes with being not only a warrior, but a warrior among many who together become something greater than themselves. To me, this book went from an incredible legend and story to one of an even personal and chilling level. After my enlistment and time in the Navy was over, I worked as a Medical Assistant, and had and have the pleasure of working with a man who got to attend some special training during his time of service, the guest speaker at which was none other than the Hero of this book and a Marine Corps. Legend, Gunnery Sergeant Carlos N. Hathcock. On the back of a paddle this man I work with received as a token of gratitude for his time spent at one of his commands, is the signature of Hathcock, in black sharpie written onto the wood. To have held that paddle and seen with my own eyes the signature written by that man was an awesome experience. This book is worth every second spent in its pages, and will definitely make you wish it never ended, although it does a graceful job of doing so.

Before the American Sniper Chris Kyle there was another deadly sniper. His name was Carlos Hathcock. He was a Marine sniper during the Vietnam War. He was deadly as wellas daring. His enemies, the Vietnamese nicknamed him Long Tra'ng or white feather. He was one of the first snipers to use the 50 caliber as a sniper weapon. He was fromthe state of Arkansas. He first came into prominence by winning the Wimbledon Cup of shooting. At an event held August 25,1965 at Camp Perry, Ohio he was the winning shooter. He promptly joined the Marine Corps and became a sniper. This began a series of fantastic shooting events that literally established him as a legend. His firstshooting success was at Elephant Valley. Hathcock and another sniper pinned 100 Viet Cong soldiers down for 5 days. This saved the lives of many American soldiers. Therewas another evil force that Hathcock also dealt with. This was a Vietnamese female officer who was known as the Apache. This war one of the most sadistic and viciousindividuals that America had to deal with in the Vietnamese War. She had skinned one American soldier alive. Another had a basket tied on his head and had a rat sewed upin the basket. The Apache also castrated an American soldier who bled to death. Hathcock shot her dead center and killed her.Her days of torturing American soldiers wereended. On another project called Rio Blanco Hathcock was given the assignment of killing a master interrogator. He was a Frenchman named Jacques. Hathcock intercepted him on the way to interrogate two American airmen. There was also a talented Vietnamese sniper who was having incredible luck killing Americans. Hathcock finally caught up withhim and killed him. Hathcock was given an assignment to kill a Vietnamese general. This general was well guarded and nearly impossible to reach. Through shrewd planningHathcock finally killed him. Hathcock became such a terror that the Viet Cong finally put a bounty on his head of $10,000. Hathcock upon retirement had 93 kills. That record was not surpassed until Chris Kyle. He finally got out of the field of combat after being stricken with multiple sclorosis. This was an outstanding book about anoutstanding Marine. Be sure to read this book.

If you are a Marine or any serviceman that served in the bush in RVN you have to read this book. Carlos Hathcock had an enormous amount of courage and without a doubt was among the greatest Marine ever. I loved the part later in the book when Hathcock was struggling with his health and his Marine retirement that was not going to provide him with what he needed to be able to get the medical care he desperately needed. My old battalion commander, Lt/ Col. Al Gray, who at this point was the Commandant of the USMC stepped in to "do what was right for his Marine in need" and made sure Carlos was treated as he should have been, and Carlos was able to live out the last few years knowing his family was secure and he had excellent health care through his last years. I my book General Gray deserved 5 stars for relentlessly pursue the solution for Carlos until he got what would take care of "White Feather"!GW

I had known a little about Sergeant Hathcock but beyond his many unbelievable accomplishments I didn't know much about the man. This book does a great job of not only telling of Sergeant Hathcock's heroic military service, his unparalleled ability as a shooter and Marine sniper, but even more it tells you about the man. After reading this book I admire the man even more and even though other snipers have came along to rewrite many shooting records, to do the things that Sergeant Hathcock did, alone or with only a spotter, in Vietnam many times hours away from any force to come to his rescue if he needed it makes him the best sniper of all time. I highly recommended this book about a hero that should never be forgotten.

Amazing story about amazing Marines. Corporal John Burke was my uncle. After his death, posthumous awards, etc we still knew little of his time in Vietnam. Years later, this book gave us the story of his service as a Marine spotting for Carlos Hathcock. I have read this book a number of times and am always amazed at the bravery and tradecraft of these men.

My grandson is really into wrestling and every year, I get him a wrestling calendar for Christmas. He'll be thrilled, as usual, come Christmas Day when he gets this one. Delivery was fast and it looks perfect.

This is a great calendar for any WWE fan. It is a great size and exactly as pictured. A great price on Amazon and quick shipping. I got this for my nephew and he loves it. Recommend this for any WWE fan!

My son loves WWE so he was very pleased to of gotten this as his calendar

My son asked for a mma calendar, I couldn't find one on Amazon so I got him this one and hoped he would like it. He likes it a lot.

Very nice!

Gamgam loves wrestling, this was her favorite gift 🤣

Awesome calendar - though I'd rather just have an all Roman Reigns calendar! Doesn't hurt that it has The Rock and Seth Rollins as well. ☺

This was a gift for my nephew that is crazy about wrestling. He liked it, but he's five and I honestly could have put a picture of John Cena on an empty box and he would have liked it.
