This is a wonderful resource for a one-stop look at "all things Disney." However, be forewarned that this book does have its mistakes and is not completely thorough, so don't expect something exhaustive...but this is pretty close to it. Descriptions tend to bounce back and forth between incredibly descriptive to incredibly nondescriptive. A tv show that lasted literally only a month will sometimes have a much longer description than a park attraction that had been up for years. There are other mistakes that veteran Disney lovers will also note. For example, the encyclopedia lists "Pecos Bills" eatery (Frontierland) in Disney World as serving some Mexican fare. However, that is incorrect...the Mexican fare is served at "El Pirata y El Perico" eatery (Adventureland), but this eatery is not even listed in the book at all. The two do share an outside dining area. It lists "Caribbean Plaza" (home to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride) in Disney World as "near Adventureland", when it's actually a part of Adventureland and borders Frontierland. Those are just a couple of examples of little mistakes throughout the book. That said, it is a wonderful compilation of everything Disney and is a great gift for any Disney lover!

This is a must have for Disney fans. Everything from ABC's LOST to the Alice Comedies and from Steamboat Willy to Meet the Robinsons is covered here. Some articles are more detailed than others but everything is covered. Makes an interesting read just on its own. Film historians and students will find a wealth of connective material here to jump start them on research and fill in the dots on hard to find questions. A beautiful display of pictures is included with this volume. If you can't actually visit the archives (and I certainly would like to) then this is the next best thing.

I am a Disney fanatic. This book has been very interesting to me, because I have enjoyed reading about who provides the voices for my favorite animated films.. My favorite animated film is The Little Mermaid.. I dyed my hair to match Ariel's! I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the voice for Scuttle was provided by the legendary Buddy Hackett. The other thing that I love about this film is that Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel, went to high school in my hometown..

This book is a great resource for all Disney fans. All the characters, all the movies (unfortunately, the Mephisto movie made in collaboration with Salvador Dali is not in the book) and all the attractions, parks, properties and influentials employees are mentioned. Maybe just not as exhaustive as I would like it; it is, however, a great resource.

Wow! Great book...my daughter hasn't put it down since I purchased it for her! Highly recommend it for anyone wanting to know everything htere is to know about Disney!

"Disney A to Z" is an awesome book that a true Disney fan cannot live without. It is a great book that will help you find out about old Disney movies, that you might have not seen. "Disney A to Z" encyclopedia is also an essential source for those that love to play the "Disney Seen it" board game. It gives a short description of ALL Disney movies including the short ones that came out after the World War II. I LOVE IT!!!

My daughter had borrowed this book from the library. I couldn't believe I could buy this book at such a great price. And it was in great shape. The book cover was a little beat up, but what are book covers for? To protect the book. We are so happy with our purchase. And might I say, you can't go wrong with a Disney book. She loves this book!

I gifted this to my parents who love to walk and hike and explore. They absolutely love the guided walks in this book! They say they are very detailed and they are learning so many interesting things about parts of the city that they have both lived in their entire lives! My mom loves it so much she is buying a copy for a friend.

Love this book. Returned to Cincinnati after some 45 years away and just reading about all the fascinating neighborhoods reintroduces me to my childhood home. Nest book, include Anderson Township and Mt. Washington.

We have walked four of these neighborhoods and look forward to many more. The interesting thing us that we are very familiar with these areas but have never walked them as extensively as this book requires. We are amazed at what we've seen and what we've learned. When we travel, we always make a point to walk around the cities we visit. Now we are learning and seeing new things about the city we've called home for 45 years. An amazing resource!

I gave this as a gift and the recipient loved it. I loved it the little I read, too, while flipping through it prior to gifting. Nice, walkable tours, with lots of information. A great resource to have if you're visiting or live in the Greater Cincinnati area. I live in Northern KY (as does the recipient of the gift) and was especially glad to see a nice section devoted to Northern KY.

Loved this book....clear cut directions and included places to snack or drink or eat(always a requirement on our walking tours). Friends and I have done several walking tours on our own of this city but this is perfect with many places and information we couldnt find consolidated elsewhere.

A great, well organized book from people who know their stuff. Great for days when you just don't know what to do and also makes a perfect gift. Kudos.

Not much of a 'guide' to implementing the fasting protocols. Expected a detailed guide/roadmap for each of the fasting protocols, relative to various health issues and goals.

I am a health care professional. I have been reading about intermittent fasting and Dr. Jason Fung for quite some time. After a rather lackluster go with the 5:2 regimen, I was weary. But then I talked to a friend who said it is legit and to try eating between a 12 and 8 pm window. The biggest hurdle was psychological by far. So I did it. And it was easy. I read The Obesity Code first and just had to read this one. This one was the favorite of the two. I loved the testimonials. I loved the before and after test results, the science and I loved how he laid out what the rules are and several different ways that you can incorporate fasting into your life. I am convinced this is what is needed to reverse chronic disease and diabetes. I don't have much weight to lose, but I lost over 15 pounds so far. I am a foodie and wine lover so when I say I love food, I love food. And this was easier than anything I've ever tried. I started with an eight hour window and consistently lost two pounds a week. Then I started condensing it into a smaller window and then tried a 24 hour window. At work, this is easy. Did I mention it was easy? When you see the results on the scale, it does motivate you to keep going (assuming you aren't eating complete processed crap when you do eat).. I just went on vacation and fasted for four days after I returned. I ate (and drank) to my heart's content on vacation and four days later I weigh less than when I left. You feast and then you fast.Every time I tell someone about this, their first response is that there is no way they could do it. Stop the excuses!!!! If you want to lose weight, get healthy and fit into those clothes that you can't fit into anymore, do this. Try it. You have absolutely nothing to lose. It truly makes your life easier and it's free to not eat. We are just not meant to eat all the time.

Wow, I found the magic button for weight loss. After having limited success with the whole field of dieting options I stumbled across a talk on youtube by Dr Jason Fung talking about fasting. After the video I searched and ended up buying the audio book and the hard copy. The concept initially terrified me for some reason and when talking to friends who fasted I just shook my head and though there is no way I could do that. One of the fasting approaches recommended however seemed pretty easy. Have dinner and fast for 24 hours, having dinner the next day. I have done that accidentally at times! Well after a 6 days of doing this, I lost 10 lbs (40 to go) and realized that what I thought was breakfast or lunchtime hunger was just my body reminding me of a long held habit of eating I have had. It is incredible that over such a short fast you can turn off insulin based fat storage, and start burning fat. A side benefit is that increased metal clarity occurs fairly quickly and offers additional incentive to fast. Also my moderately elevate blood pressure is getting back to normal. Leads me to think that we have a obesity problem in the country because people eat 3 meals a day and insulin based fat storage never turns off. This is another area where the industrial food business exploits us in their marketing and so called guidelines. I am now convinced there is absolutely no need for 3 meals a day.Now the book recommends starting out the 24 hr fasting for a couple of days per week. I have decided to do it 5 or 6 times per week. I am pretty confident I can now get to any weight I want. I think the book is important in that it helps you break long held thoughts and misconceptions about eating and going without food. It also discusses other lengths of fasts that can range from 36 hour to weeks. It is so flexible you can do it anytime. And if I am fasting one day, and my friends invite me over for breakfast, or lunch no problem I will forget about fasting that day or have breakfast, but forget about lunch. In my opinion most people who have access to food have never experienced hunger, just mealtime urges. These urges are easy to identify and ignore after a few days (at least for me).I listened to the audio book first and then used the book for reinforcement for changing my thinking. There is quite a bit of repetition but this was necessary for me to truly break long held conventional thinking.Basically you are eating less food when only eating once per day. By having a long break between meals you body has time to get into fat burning mode. So while it seems like a magic button, it is not magic at all. You just have to forget about everything you have ever been taught or thought you knew about eating. This book is a great tool to change habits and conventional thinking.I will try to come back after I reach my goal weight and give an update. But I have no doubt that this is the solution that will allow me to control my weight to whatever level I choose. Read the book. It will change your life!

It’s an awesome book! Definitely helped me to get a better grasp on the Montessori method and helped me to understand a bit of my child’s stages of growth. Also helped me to know what to expect and when to expect it as far as learning. My daughter is 4 and we just put her into a Montessori school. I wish I had researched sooner so I could’ve gotten her started earlier, but at least I can make our home somewhat of an extension of the classroom.I gave this 4 stars because I found some of the exercises to be outdated but I’d still buy it even if I knew that....

I enjoyed reading this book. As a stay-at-home mom this book gave me many ideas of how to incorporate learning into our everyday. This book gives good tips on teaching autonomy...there were many things I hadn't really realized kids could do at such a young age until reading this book. I look forward to incorporating more of this book as my children get older as well. It gives a nice background of Montessori and the reasons behind the thinking, but doesn't spend too much time on it.

A few months ago I decided to implement a Montessori curriculum at home for my almost 3 year old. I am a certified K-8 teacher, so I had some familiarity with the Montessori method. I've decided to purchase a Montessori curriculum to follow (do an Internet search for "Montessori curriculum" and you will find quite a few), since I don't feel I have enough of the experience and knowledge to create my own. This was one of the first books I bought, in an effort to become familiar with the method. It's much shorter than I thought, however it is full of very valuable information.The introduction to the book provides a short overview of the method and its success, but if you are looking for an in depth coverage of the Montessori method, look elsewhere. I purchased this along with "Montessori in the Classroom," "The Essential Montessori," and "The Montessori Method." Instead of looking at this book as the "be all, end all" book, I saw it more as a piece of the foundation that I was trying to create.Many of the materials mentioned in the book are no longer available, but a quick internet search can usually turn up what you are looking for. Some of the activities seemed like common sense to me (learning to push in a chair, washing your hands, etc.), but for someone completely new to the method they make sense. As adults, it's often easy for us to forget that many of these daily activities don't come naturally. It was a good reminder that we can't have high expectations for these routines, unless we specifically teach them.The one thing that I felt was lacking was the method for presenting the materials. Luckily, I was able to find a more in depth description in other books (see above). She lists a few short steps (usually about 3-5) for introducing the materials, but she doesn't make it as explicit as I would have liked. There also aren't many extension activities listed. Generally, there is one (sometimes two) activties listed for each material. I would have like to see more variations and extensions. I do like how she lists the control of error for each material. It became very clear to me that all of the Montessori materials allow students to be self taught. It becomes very evident when they've made a mistakes, so children are more likely to self correct without teacher intervention.This is definitely a great supplement to a beginning Montessori library. I can see myself using this quite a bit as we begin the school year, but as we become familiar with the method, I see myself passing it along to someone else. It's definitely a good starting point for teaching Montessori in the home, but the material is quickly mastered.

It's a good book for teachers who wants to start montessori, but it didn't any new I formation to my knowledge.

I was completely ignorant about the Montessori method when I bought this book. My son is almost 3 and as I hadbecome tired of playing with cars and trucks and saying No all the time. I was looking for a more engaged kind of play-with-learning that we could do at home.This book is fantastic - outlining many activities and giving a taste of the Montessori approach that will let you decide whether you want to know more (I did!).Many Montessori programs are expensive but this book equips you to do the activities with home made equipment. It also inspires parents to engage their children with everyday activities - eg. my son loved the 'lesson' on how to open and close a drawer properly. He quickly "taught" his panda and Maisie how to do it noiselessly and showed a great deal of pride. What a change from throwing Hot Wheels cars at the wall!

As a new parent, I needed something to introduce myself to Montessori instruction. I plan to enroll my 36 month old soon, but at this time, she is fine in the care of her grandparents and in the evenings, with myself. Until she begins Montessori, I want to begin instilling some of the instructions. I ordered this book along with one other you will notice in my reviewed items. Both books are very good in my opinion, and all that I need. Even if I never enroll her in daycare, preschool, this is adequate. It gives great ideas that a parent or caregiver can share while with the child. Very good quality book.Update....2013...my child is now 9 years old and let me update my thoughts. I have always placed education as one of top priority in the list of most important focuses for my daughter (others being health, family, morals, respect to self and others, religion). I have been an advocate for my child especially in school, making certain she receives the education she should. I have been in the principal's office many many times by choice to discuss education. From the time I received this book, I did enroll my child into Montessori at age 4(researched all the schools in the area very carefully as if it were a university for my child). She attended Montessori for 2 years and now attends a public school, with enhanced tutoring and extracurricular sports afterschool balancing the education and growth process. Again, looking back, I do recommend this book.

Learned a lot.

My daughter loves to flip through the book and point to the pictures of the activity she wants to do. I was surprised at how much my kid love doing these activities, since they seem so simple. I love this book, easy things to incorporate into every day routines.

I appreciate Virgie's ability to remind me of things I thought I knew but somehow forgot. I needed this book right now. Even though there is a lot in her experience I haven't endured (e.g., blatant harassment at school, years of dieting/starvation), there is so much in her writing that I do connect with. This book made me feel deeply understood and validated as fat woman, and I cheered at this line from Virgie, as I thought about the life I want to build: "In the dreams I have of my future, I am fat."

This book was fun to read and had so much insight. I found it incredibly empowering!

This book is everything ! “I think about the thousand ways that women in my family were silently (and sometimes outright) expected to give up their lives, their dreams, and their desire, do that they could become the glorified babysitters for the men in their lives who wanted a legacy but none of the the responsibility of child -rearing. I think of the ways that women are expected to become mothers, giving up theirs lives while still being the object of scorn and pity, while men are praised for having dad bods.” It combats fatphobia among other social issues like patriarchy and racism. Definitely one of my new fave feminist!

READ THIS BOOK! If you are looking for a quick but crucial read on the intersection of dieting, fatness, and social justice, do not skip this book! Virgie weaves her own experiences with years of research to drive home necessary lessons on the oppressive nature of the diet industry, the effects of misogyny on dieting and body image, and (among others) the importance of living your life just as you are NOW, not waiting around until some magical day when suddenly all of your problems are solved by shrinking yourself (hint: your problems will NEVER be solved by shrinking yourself, which isn't even sustainably possible!) Virgie takes us all to school with this intelligent, often funny, and sometimes heartbreaking book. Do yourself a favor and read it!

Virgie pulled no punches and gave so many of us the real talk and unapologetic focus on the root causes of fatphobia and our deep entrenchment in diet culture...and gave us a glimpse on how break free. Not merely a feel good guide for fat girls, this book calls for a revolution! More, more, more of this please.

I loved this book. It’s a quick read, full of deep insights. The writing style is approachable so I feel fine about recommending it to non-academic friends. Virgie succinctly draws connections between misogyny/white supremacy and diet culture/fatphobia, and then states them as the well-researched facts that they are, not as points that are up for debate.A really important read for all people: for fatties like me to feel seen and equipped to advocate for ourselves in a hateful world, and also for thin folx, who are often completely unaware of their own fatphobia and the systemic oppression it perpetuates.Super happy with this purchase and will probably buy more to pass out to friends.
