Delving back into college after a 15 year hiatus. Macroeconomics and Comp1 are my classes of choice. Wanted extra info and quick reference cards like this seem to help me. Appears to have good information on it but we shall see as class begins in a couple weeks. I see different terminology than the class book has which is not a bad thing. Helps the mind retain information that could be presented in other ways.

This just arrived yesterday. My class starts tomorrow, so that worked out well. It's very much what I expected, punched to fit into my three ring notebook, easy to read, well organized, etc. Looks like a good reference tool for helping me get through Macroeconomics this summer.

Very unorganized.I do not recommend this as a quick study or any kind of study.I would not recommend this material.

This is a good tool to point what are the main ideas or arguments such as the graphs and charts and how do slopes shifts. But the details are missing such as in the case of foreign exchange markets or how a currency affects the country. All those tiny details that will help you wiggle with the tools provided.Overral, Great job, in putting it all together.Oh something I hate from the chart is the 3 punch holes; because the holes have cut pieces of some information. Please guys don't punch anymore, let us do it if we want to.

Expected quality, short and concise. Biased in regards to public policy (interventionism) but this is what i was looking for. A short go to, to address common understandings and concepts of economics.

I liked the usefulness and the ease of use of this product. It has proved to be beneficial for me.

Step daughter passes the class...

Not detailed as expected. I think it depends on the subject because I have the Excel quick reference and it's valuable.

Review

“A testament to mind over brain ... It's the truth of the matter that sheer willpower can truly make you break free.”—Leonardo DiCaprio“Operating on the highly rational perspective that we are not our brains, but rather, substantial free agents who exercise control over our brains, Schwartz and Gladding develop a simple, yet profoundly insightful approach for developing a flourishing life.  The result is truly life-giving, and it will bring healing and hope to all who read it and practice its wisdom.”—J.P. Moreland, author of The God Question"How can the brain, which is just a complex network of interconnected nerve cells, give rise to consciousness and to thought? Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz and Dr. Rebecca Gladding argue, persuasively, that the mind actually has massive causal effects on the functioning of the brain. In other words, you can not only change the way you think, feel and behave through conscious effort when you're upset, but you can also change the programming and chemistry of your brain. A compelling and important message."—David Burns, M.D., author of Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy“The idea that we can deliberately and systematically change our brains with our minds was once thought ridiculous.  But now, largely due to Jeffrey Schwartz and his UCLA research on neuro-plasticity and OCD, this once revolutionary idea is well accepted.  Rebecca Gladding and Jeffrey Schwartz adapt Schwartz’s extraordinarily successful program for a mainstream audience giving simple, self-directed tools to help achieve greater happiness, emotional balance, and overall well-being.”—Susan Kaiser Greenland, author of The Mindful Child

This book was a saving grace for me. At a point in my life when many things were falling apart at the same time, I was overwhelmed with so much negative self-talk, my emotional responses were out of control, and I had no way out except to cry all the time. I was frustrated and thought surely I was going to lose my mind. The 4-step solution has been the tool I needed to break through the neuro cognitive cycle of repetitive thoughts that had been dominating for decades. Just because you have a thought doesn't make it true. This book is very well written, straight forward, and conceptually clear and solid. Buy it!

While the authors don't specifically mention PTSD in this wonderful book it has been hugely helpful for me in understanding what is going on in my brain with the symptoms of PTSD from childhood trauma, and I would highly recommend it to anyone in recovery from post traumatic stress. The understandings from this book have enabled me to rapidly see when my brain is sending messages that simply are not true in terms of my objective reality, and makes it much easier for me to redirect my attention to something that calms me down. I'm a long term meditator so do have a baseline level of mindfulness that folks new to the practice wouldn't have, but this book has taken my practice to a whole new level as I'm far less likely to be sucked into the unhelpful messages from my brain now that I really understand what's going on in there. It is so liberating to be able, for example, to be exposed to smells that in the past resulted in my brain going ballistic, without no more than the slightest hint of fear now. It is also incredibly liberating to be able to rapidly let my brain know that there is nothing to fear in situations that in the past I was seriously hijacked by the messages coming from my brain, and fear escalated rapidly to the point of me actually losing sight of the fact that my objective reality was totally safe in the moment.Another benefit I've had from working with this book is that I am much less likely to be tipped out of my grounding when working with methods such as Wholebody Focusing to heal trauma. Where in the past I would have struggled to stay with intense emotions arising when working on my own because my brain was sending "there is something wrong" messages at a huge rate of knots, I can now rapidly tap into the understandings from this book and know that my "Uh Oh Centre" is sending false messages and I can bring my "Assessment Centre" (as the authors helpfully label different areas of the brain) online to calm things down, enabling me to stay with what is arising, which in turn enables my brain to process unresolved emotions from the past. This is powerful stuff. The authors really made it clear that neuroplasticity (the brain's ability to change) is happening all the time, no matter what choices we are making. Each time we repeat an unskilful behaviour we thicken the associated neural networks. So the key is self-directed neuroplasticity, and that's what I've been seeing in abundance in my life since starting to work with this book. The authors stress that it's hard work to keep doing their four step process over and over but well worth it. I've found that the process can be expedited much more rapidly in many cases by combining the author's understanding with a self-help method known as EFT or Tapping (which in my opinion is one of the most powerful tools out there these days for tapping into self-directed neuroplasticity). I've seen rapid change in issues that have been stuck for a long time in my life through combining the learnings from this wonderful book with the EFT method.I very much appreciate the authors having put this information into such a readable and useable format. This has been a life changing book for me and this review is being posted with a lot of appreciation for the powerful information it contains.Update: While I learnt lots from this book, there has been a book published since which goes much more into the PTSD side and explains more about what this author calls "defective brain messages". I highly recommend the newer book "Sensorimotor Psychotherapy: Interventions for Trauma and Attachment" instead of this book now, for anyone with PTSD. It goes much further into the neuroscience behind PTSD, and explaining why we react the way we do; and has a much wider range of interventions than this book.

Ok. I don’t usually write reviews but I had to for this one. This book is a good book with good advice but it takes a loooooong time to get to the point. It feels like it should’ve been maybe about 4 chapters total and instead it goes on and on to the point where it feels like a sales pitch. It cheapens the message because it feels like it’s hyping me up to this grand idea. And when I finally get to the Four Steps, there’s more sales pitching. Other people here have said his other book is essentially the same but better. Maybe I should’ve picked that one up instead.Just be ready for the scenic route. And stopping to take selfies along that scenic route often. It’s a long, long winded route.

This book is amazing. It's worked like how I'd expect counseling to work for me. It is a must-read for anyone who is ready to stop thinking negatively or end a bad habit. It is a great balance of the "how" your brain works and the "what" you can do about it. It's very practical. Don't read this book if you aren't ready to face your issues and make some changes. Guaranteed you will change if you want to!

There is absolutely no better book than this one. Even if you are not apparently fraught by OCD, anxiety or other symptoms, you start realizing that things you are doing or avoiding have become habituated without your conscious decision. I recommend you make a conscious decision: Read it and learn!

The premise of this book is that as a child you developed unhealthy coping strategies that your brain uses today even though there is no real dangerThe author lays out a simple 4 steep process for rewiring the brain so it wont default to your child coping strategy.i have been using the techniques for just a few weeks and I`ve noticed a slight reduction in the annoying repetitive worrying thoughts and maybe less cravings.i read and enjoy mindfulness exercises but I also felt that my inner struggle didnt relent, This method bridges that gap of working on the self and being mindful.Time will tell how effective the strategy will be but my initial thoughts are hopeful.

#10,690 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

This book is for leaders looking to improve their organization and it uses the military leaders ethic as its backbone. I am an army officer and commander and have been one for over 20 years, so this is right up my alley. Most of the information is on point, but it is so obvious it reads like an army manual. The mantra of "put your organization first, serve your subordinates, be thankful and humble, and be quick to give credit where credit is due, if you don't care who gets credit for good work then everyone wins" is hard to stretch out over 200 pages, and sometimes it seems that way. However, most of the book is right on and I would recommend it.

Sinek combines interesting perspectives from anthropology, biochemistry, history and business practice to weave together his narrative in support of his premise that great leadership is predicated upon behaviors of empathy and trust. Drawing on examples from the US military, medicine, business, finance and history, Sinek keeps the book engaging with stories and examples that bring his ideas to life, although I found he got repetitive and "preachy" from time to time.A memorable segment was Sinek's discussion of our biochemistry as human beings involving endorphins, dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin. His explanation of the ways these chemicals differentiate us from all other species provided insight into our success as human beings by driving cooperation and receiving neurochemical benefits from advancing the greater social good.Much of the book is not new, and Sinek tends to make broad generalizations that could easily be challenged. But as a conversation starter, the book is a refreshing addition to leadership literature and brings some new information and perspective to a discussion of leadership, while prompting consideration of broader issues of the values modern society embraces.

There are many books on Leadership that have little to say. Sinek's book has both new insights and an inspiring vision.Sinek begins with biology and outlines the roles of chemicals - specifically Endorphins, Dopamine, Serotonin and Oxytocin - and how evolution has dictated why we generate them and how we respond to them. Endorphins mask pain and help give you a `runner's high' or the intense satisfaction after a tough work out.Dopamine leads to your `feeling good' upon accomplishing a goal whether that is bringing home dinner while evading sabre-toothed tigers or doing a bang-up job on a major presentation. Think of endorphins and Dopamine as the `individual achievement' chemicals. We need them to excel at what we do.Serotonin is what gives you a feeling of gratitude and affection for the persons who supported you in your endeavors and the good feeling as they applaud you. Oxytocin is `love' chemical. It gives you the warm fuzzies you get when you hug someone or have a deep meaningful conversation. Think of Serotonin and Oxytocin as the `social' chemicals. We, as humans, need both the individual achievement and social chemicals to progress. What has happened, unfortunately, in our society is that mores and values have changed to emphasize the former to such an extent that a deadly imbalance has been created. It is truly toxic - your job may be killing you. I used to think this was hyperbole but Sinek presents enough evidence for me to revise this opinion.Central to Sinek's arguments is the `Circle of Safety'. When a sabre-toothed tiger attacks a herd of buffalos they gather together with their tails touching and horns out. Whichever direction that tiger attacks, it is met with impenetrable defense. This is the circle of safety. We want to feel that there are persons we can trust who will look out for us. Where we can let our guard down and be ourselves. In such a trusting environment we can focus on doing the best we can and this greatly benefits both us, individually, the company. This feeling of `belonging' is what has disappeared from the corporate workplace to a large extent. It has been replaced by an ethos of `everyone for himself and the Devil take the hindmost'. And, sadly, even the `winners' in this environment are actually losers because of the personal price they pay in terms of insecurity and lack of meaningful relations, not to mention health side effects. What I found really useful in the book is the way in which Sinek takes concepts from fields such as psychology and shows how they are relevant to what we experience in the workplace. I found these to be penetrating insights and they lead to many `aha' moments as well as to a change in the way I conduct some of my own programs. For example, take the Milgram experiments. These are some of the best known - and most shocking - experiments in psychology and the implications are truly horrifying. In the early sixties, shortly after the Adolf Eichmann capture, trial and execution, there was a lively debate on whether Nazi collaborators were simply `following orders' or had a sense of responsibility and ownership for what they did.Yale professor Stanley Milgram devised a series of experiments in which a volunteer was asked to deliver electric shocks to a subject each time he made an `error' in a lesson. Unbeknownst to the volunteer the subject was actually a confederate of the professor and an actor who affected great pain and suffering as the level of electric shocks increased. In reality there were no shocks and no pain but the volunteer did not know this. When volunteers demurred from administering painful electric shocks the white gowned Milgram told them in various ways that they were required to continue even when they thought that the shocks they were administering were severely harmful to the subject. The shocking result was that huge numbers of `normal' persons - readily or with mild trepidation - continued to administer potentially lethal shocks to subjects even as they howled with pain and demanded that they be released from the experiment. And this happened simply because they were told to do so by an `authority figure' with no threats or rewards for doing so.Obviously this has great implications for why dictatorships form and survive and the debate on this continues to this day. What Sinek points out is that this same experiment is played out in our companies every day at huge human toll. I had never thought of it in these terms before but parallel is exact. Many `managers' willingly take actions that they know will bring hardship and suffering to others - mass layoffs, reductions in benefits, changes in working conditions etc. - simply because they have been directed to do so. Even worse, we have evolved a business `philosophy' where formal directions are no longer necessary - this is simply the way to do things.Sinek talks about how to bring the balance back in our workplace so both companies and individuals can thrive side by side in a symbiotic relationship. And he gives lots of examples such as the Barry Wehmiller companies where CEO Bob Chapman is dedicated to `building great people who do extraordinary things. And Charlie Kim, CEO of Next Jump who implemented a policy of lifetime employment.I particularly like his comparison of the results achieved by James Sinegal, CEO of Costco and Jack Welch the much touted former CEO of General Electric. Welch's paradigm of pitting executives against each other created a high stress environment and the gains were short-lived and unsustainable. In contrast Sinegal built a strong `circle of safety' for his people, paid wages which were nearly double those at Walmart and did many things to engender loyalty and trust. Costco employees are loyal and have built it into the second largest retailer in the country and the growth is both balanced and continuing. This book will make you think differently about the business systems that prevail in our society and also give you a way to make the workplace more humane.I hope you join the `Truly Human Leadership" bandwagon set rolling by Bob Chapman, CEO of the Barry Wehmiller companies. Be sure to watch his TEDx talk. Google it to get the URL.

“When it matters, leaders choose to eat last.”When you look at humanity through the eyes of evolution, things are really interesting. Humans are incredibly different from others animals. The thing that really separates us is our ability to cooperate and work together. It is simply unmatched. Human teamwork has created huge civilizations and amazing scientific discoveries. We spend a good part of our life working for the good of others while other work for our good. It is quite amazing. In Leaders Eat Last, Simon Sinek explores this unique ability to work together and how leaders make that happen. Sinek examines the chemicals that course through our veins; the ones that tell us we are happy, sad, angry or stressed. These emotions are the ones leaders must move with and against to create change. This is a great book. I assumed that the book would focus more on the concept of leaders humbling themselves and putting others first. Though that is a theme, it was not highlighted very brightly. A more accurate title would be the The Chemicals of Leadership.Sinek is a great author. He is interesting and easy to read. I would recommend this book. Here are a few great quotes:“Leadership is about taking responsibility for lives and not numbers.”“All we need are leaders to give us a good reason to commit ourselves to each other.”“Let us all be the leaders we wish we had.”

This is not your typical leadership book.. In fact, I don't think I've read a leadership book that was even remotely like it. I found it a bit odd to talk about the chemical composition of a person when it comes to leadership but I get it now. There are so many great tidbits and pearls of wisdom in the book and it's a relatively easy and quick read. One thing that was interesting was his comparisons of GE's leadership and Costco's leadership style, I'm not sure I buy into all the comparisons. All in all, it was a very good book and worth the read.
