An entertaining and well written survey of a rather exotic (for me) topic. The portraits of the women that dr. Ehrick profiles are vivid and compelling. after finishing the book I actually did feel able to imagine the sounds and impressions of various female voices in the temporally and geographically remote location of buenos aires/Montevideo in the 1930s/40s.
