About the Author

Historian Richard Thompson may not have grown up to be a museum director, librarian, or trolley coordinator had it not been for the influence of his grandmother, who took him along for rides on the Oregon City Line, the state’s last interurban. I've been waiting for a book like this since the 1970's, when I first became interested in the east side interurbans. Many photos I've never seen before. The track plan for the Sellwood car barns is much appreciated (I used to live across the tracks from the now-gone barns). Lots of good historical data. Well worth the cost! Thanks Mr.Thompson!

A number of other interurban railways originated in Portland but were not even mentioned in this book. Some such ventures were the Willamette Valley Southern and the extensive Southern Pacific system. This book's author said they're covered in another book. Still, it would have been nice to know how extensive Portland's Interurban Railway really was.
